Bristol has an enviable buffet of bite-sized food news this week so here is a quick round-up of what’s going on and when.
Moor Beer has always held a special place in my heart. They were my first tap room visit, the first place I saw my friend’s nipple by accident and the first place I was told I was not allowed to put my card behind the bar anymore after I left without paying my tab for the 3rd time. Yes, reader, I am a trash fire of a person and I make no excuses. This summer they are pulling out the bells, stops, whistles and glasses with a series of summer events.
Eat Moor Burgers – Honest Burger is coming to Bristol (more on that later) and have decided to come back to the Moor taproom to show Bristol what they’re about. Alongside some of the best beers in the city, you can look forward to some juicy burger action from the back of Honest Burger’s landrover. They allegedly serve the best fries that Bar Manager Darran has ever had so I look forward to hearing what the rest of the burger mafia of Bristol think.
4th July Party – Does what it says on the tin really! The beer might be Bristol but the concept and leadership comes from Justin, a certified yank. Celebrate America’s independence from England, but inevitable return to our shores at Moors party, serving beer and American BBQ from Smoke Catering, thin burgers, hotdogs, smores and everything in between
Speaking of Honest Burgers, this chain is coming to fill the space left behind by Tincan on Clare St and they come with a big reputation. Personally, I haven’t tried these guys but judging by the pictures and recommendations from other foodies in the UK we are in for a bit of a treat. Allegedly we are going to be treated to a poutine burger (not sure how that will manifest itself but you know I’ll try it) but looking at the menu the staples are either chicken, beef or veggie burgers with plenty of sides, sauces and everything comes with chips, an absolutely winner in my eyes as paying extra for them makes me very cross indeed. Join the mailing list for the latest news on pop up and openings, they are popping up at Moor Beer and The Robin Hood on St Michaels Hill through June.
The new corner (ha!) pop up from the guys behind Bakers and Co and Bravas have the dumpling experts Ah-Mas Dumplings in for this week. Look out for insanely good value lunch deals and enjoy them with an expertly poured drink from the Corner 77 bar. Expect to choose from dumplings, bao or a combo of both and have them served with All a honey tahini slaw, sweet chilli pickled cucumber & choice of dips. Drop that meal deal and make a better lunch choice! With the world cup kicking off, Corner 77 have sorted a telly and will be offering a calm bolt hole for those that want to watch the match without a gammon starting on them over a spilt pint of Stella. You can enjoy a pizza bought by the slice and a welcoming atmosphere to watch the least thrilling sport in history.
It has been announced and we are in for a treat, beer fans! Expect Asado, Salt & Malt, For Mice and Men, Eatchu and The Little Taquero to be lining the stomachs and mopping up the beers in September. This year I have not been scuppered by a wedding so do come and say hello!
Sadly this stalwart of a bakery has had to close its doors citing “financial problems” after many years of trading. Rumour has it the bakery has been up for sale for a long while and it looks like time has run out for owner Dom. It can’t be ignored the dig that has been made towards other bakeries in the area that “don’t bake on site” (Hobbs house has been named on the FB thread) and it remains to be seen who and when someone will move into the empty shop. Fingers crossed it’s something good.
